This week will conclude our time in Morality. We will have a brief exam review along with final Beauty Shops and some consideration for next semester Social Justice classes. Thank you! Monday, January 14th Exam Review Please check out this resource (link) on the Seven Principle for Catholic Social Teaching. It is a link to Cabrini University. The hope is that we will continue work with them in the Immigration seminar and training like we did last Spring. PLEASE NOTE
For the take home essay, I have decided to have you select either Part I OR Part II of the questions related to Digital Ethics. Please type your response using specific examples. Your response should be a minimum of 15 sentences. Types, Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced Answer
Part 1. Keeping in mind Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go and our case study on the Pillow Angel Ethic (The Ashley Treatment), Do you think it is too late to do anything about the power of technology? If so, should humans themselves become technology? OR If it is not too late, what would you propose as a “moral compass” to offset procedures like the Pillow Angel Ethic (Ashley Treatment – Recall Ashley’s limited autonomy) or the future in Never Let Me Go? Is there some universal standard(s) that could be agreed upon by nations? A new Declaration of Human Rights? Give examples. OR
Part 2. Dr. Leonard also makes the point that technology is all about making the world “efficient.” Humans and things like Religion that deal with mystery, telling stories, grace, forgiveness etc... aren’t really “efficient” or fact based. Consider the life experiences shared during Beauty Shop and our class film The Human Experience, What would be the role of religion, if any, in an “efficient” technologically driven world?
